By Andrew Burnes The Washington State Patrol says it is investigating a case of excessive force that occurred on Tuesday in a Portland neighborhood.
Officers responded to a report of a man who was pointing a gun at them in the area of Northwest 4th Avenue and SE Powell Street, which is just south of the Portland Navy Yard, the Portland Police Bureau said in a statement.
They found the man with a gunshot wound to the head.
The Portland Police Department did not release any other details, including how the shooting occurred or whether the suspect was arrested.
In a statement on Wednesday, police said they were investigating the shooting as an “incidental discharge” of a firearm.
A statement on the patrol’s website also said the shooting happened “on a busy street in a relatively quiet neighborhood” and that officers had “received reports of multiple people pointing guns at officers.”
The Portland Fire and Rescue Bureau and the Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the case, according to the statement.
